Powder coating adds colour to playground for the disabled

March 2011 – Playing outside is not a straightforward business in a city like The Hague. So playgrounds are needed that are both safe and challenging. Good playing facilities challenge children and stimulate their imaginations. Children with special needs are no exception. So a playground has been set up in the Escamp area with special playing equipment for the disabled. The steel parts of the playing equipment were hot-dip galvanised by Verzinkerij Kampen and then powder coated by Poedercoating Hoogeveen.

Even though television and game computers are very popular, playing outside remains important. For children with special needs, too. So the Melis Stoke Park is now home to the second playground for disabled children in The Hague, based on a design from the design and engineering firm, Carve. In the middle section, the children can play, go down the slide, or walk or crawl through the blue tunnels. The undulating path is accessible for disabled people with wheelchairs or walking frames. The blue tunnels are also large enough to accommodate wheelchairs. And there are tubes connecting the tunnels so that the children can talk to one another.

Safe and durable

DMS Metaalbewerking from Staphorst produced and assembled all the steel parts for this special playing equipment. Verzinkerij Kampen hot-dip galvanised them and some of the steel parts were then powder coated in blue by Poedercoating Hoogeveen. As a result, all the children in the Melis Stoke Park, whether young or old, healthy or disabled, can get together and enjoy themselves at a fun, safe and durable playground.
